1 IN 100 000

Another cause that I think is worth supporting is the 1 in 100 000 challenge set by the The Sunflower Fund and taken up by 5FM's DJ Fresh.

The Challenge
DJ Fresh will meet 100 000 people online in 1000 hours leading up to The Sunflower Fund National Bandana Day on the 12th of October 2010. He is doing this to illustrate the odds that a person suffering from Leukaemia has in finding a successful stem bone donor match. According to the 1 in 100 000 website: "a person suffering from Leukaemia has a 1 in 100 000 chance of finding a bone marrow stem cell donor match. That’s 1 match for every 100 000 people. Most of us won’t meet a 100 000 people in our lifetime. In fact, if you lived to be 90 years old, you’d have to meet 1 person every 8 hours, from the day that you were born, until the day you die".

Go to the 1 in 100 000 website and sign up now. If the idea of helping others doesn't appeal to you, then there are some great prizes to be won including the chance to met DJ Fresh for real and spend an afternoon with him at the 5FM studios.

I am not sure why a snap shot of a rather dodgy looking DJ Fresh was used on the website, but as fans of his know, DJ Fresh is great guy and I would love to meet him in the flesh, but if I do not win at least I know that I have made a difference.
