Mart and I are going to an Exhibition of Yda Walt latest work. I first heard about Yda when I started out in the textile trade. Yda is a artist and designer based in Johannesburg, who does silk screen printing on to felt grounds and then appliques the silk screen prints onto various textured grounds creating unique pieces of Johannesburg. Yda’s work is labour intensive and she shuns technology in favour of the unemployed creating work for single mothers who do all the hand work essential to Yda’s finished product.
